Barcelona Art GalleryFrom 3 - 6 September, the cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region, will host the 16th edition of the European Conference on the Mathematics of Oil Recovery. The biennial ECMOR conference gathers applied mathematicians and geosciences engineers from both academia and industry to discuss the recent advances in the mathematics of oil recovery.
Since the inaugural conference in Cambridge, UK, three decades ago, ECMOR has been convened every two years, gathering applied mathematicians and geoscience engineers from both academia and industry to discuss recent advances in the mathematics of oil recovery. The conference attracts between 200 and 250 delegates, providing both informal and more structured opportunities for discussion and exchange of ideas between world specialists in simulation, modelling and data integration.
In the current low oil price era, it is even more important to use mathematics and related digital technologies to increase recovery and returns on oil and gas investments. Therefore, risk based optimization of well plans and production scenarios; use of linear, non-linear and multiscale methods as well as high-performance computing for fast and representative reservoir simulation are expected to be hot topics at ECMOR XVI. In addition, we expect a high level of continued interest in many other topics including: reservoir characterization, modelling of complex physical phenomena in conventional and unconventional resources, enhanced oil recovery, flow in naturally fractured media, and computer-assisted history matching.
We invite you to contribute to the technical programme, share results and new ideas within the friendly and stimulating atmosphere of ECMOR. In addition, extended versions of the conference papers can be published in a special issue of the Computational Geosciences journal.
